Vitamin Redux - Zine Launch and Group Exhibition

This afternoon from 3-6, the last ever Vitamin Zine launch, The Redux, will be taking place at the Gray Street Workshop.
It will be the final Vitamin launch, in honour of Vitamin's founder, Shaw Hendry.
There will be limited edition Vitamin merchandise available for purchase as well as back issues of the zine.
A silent auction of artworks created by a number of artists (myself included) will also take place, titled Vitamin Flowers. All proceeds raised go towards funding an exhibition of Shaw's much loved Simpsons Collection at Light Square Gallery next year.

So come on down and be a part of the last ever Vitamin launch.  More information can be seen on the Vitamin Archive, where you can find all back issues of the zine.

The artworks auctioned are also a part of an online exhibition on the Vitamin site here.

Show Your Working Out - Format Group Show

This Thursday the 7th of October, a group exhibition of works in progress, cleverly titled Show Your Working Out, will be shown at Format space.
Margaret Lloyd curated the show and brought together many local artists, not just in the visual arts but also in music, literature and other mediums.
I'll be including unfinished and completed felting works because it wouldn't be much fun to just throw in a ball of wool without an idea of the finished product now, would it?
This is the second group show I've taken part in at Format for 2010. What can I say, it's always a pleasure to show work there. It's never just an exhibition, it's always a party.

More details here about the show, and if you've never heard of the Format collective, DO go check out their site.

Little Weeds - Small Acts of Tenderness & Violence

Today is the launch of the 2010 Format Festival.
The group show "Little Weeds - Small Acts of Tenderness & Violence" is also opening as part of the festival. Curated by my friend and past lecturer, Lisa Harms, the exhibition showcases the works of 17 artists, such as Sera Waters, Sally Parnis and Lyn Wood, and I'm lucky enough to be included.

The works I've decided to include are a video installation (a reworking of a piece from 2009) and new Viewmaster works.

I've spent quite a bit of time this week hanging the works giving Lisa a hand, and I have to say, she knows how to put a show together. The space has been transformed. There's not one part of the show that isn't carefully thought over.

It's been my first ever contact with the Format Festival and I've been having a ball hanging the work and just generally hanging around the Format Space on Peel Street. Such a great group of characters.

The festival is continuing for a couple weeks, I strongly suggest you check out the Format Guide and get into it.

As for the Little Weeds show, Lisa has put together a website that is pretty interactive and she's even put up individual artist's pages which is pretty spiffy. Here's mine!

Lisa was kind enough to ask me to photograph the works included in the show and has created a flickr account with the images. She even gave me the photographer's credit on every image, gotta love that! So thorough.

Hope to see you at Format.

Group Show at Gallery 139 - Cranio Facial Fundraiser

I was lucky enough to be included in a group show at the ever-so-swanky (please note the s) Gallery 139. The show is only up for a week and is a fundraiser for the Cranio Facial Foundation. 10% of the commission will be going to the cause so let's hope people buy big.

The brief for the show was skulls, so as you can imagine, it's right up my alley! Plus, the list of artists showing is rather impressive (and extensive). To name a few there's locals Peter Drew, Shane Devries, Rohan Fraser and some guy from the UK called Damien something..... Hirst maybe? Yes, that's right, Damien Hirst.  Bam!

Anyways, here are the details: Gallery 139, 139 Magill Road, Stepney. 22nd May, 2009. 6pm-8pm.

And here's the work you'll see at the show!

Hope to catch you at the show!
